On Thursday, new Texas Longhorns’ head coach Charlie Strong added a huge to piece to his 2014 recruiting class.

Four-star safety/outside linebacker Edwin Freeman committed to the Texas Longhorns.

Freeman, a 6’0.5,  212 lb. hybrid player could find himself as either a linebacker or a safety in Strong’s defense and is the kind of athletic, multitalented prospect he desires.

Throughout the process, Robertson, who attends Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, has been focused on the two in-state powers in Texas, the Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies.

With Texas having another disappointing season and the controversy surrounding former head coach Mack Brown, it looked like the Aggies had taken the lead in the race for Freeman’s services, but Texas’ decision to hire Strong put them over the top.

The LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Christian Horned Frogs were also in the running, but Freeman eliminated them in early December.

Freeman is rated as the 177th best overall player and 14th best outside linebacker according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
