After three seasons with the Vanderbilt Commodores, James Franklin was officially named the new head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions this past Saturday. It’s the start of a new journey for one of the more successful young coaches in college football.
He made himself a national, household name by doing what he did at his time at Vanderbilt. Basically, he did what most thought was impossible. He took the doormat program of the SEC and he made them competitive. The past two seasons, they’ve won nine games and have also grabbed two bowl victories.
While it was a short time a the helm, Franklin still took out a near-full page ad in the Tennessean this morning, thanking the Vanderbilt community.

Yet another classy move by the new Penn State head coach, however I’m not sure that most Vandy fans will feel the same.
Since his departure, the recruiting class has depleted some, including some players flipping their commitments from the Commodores to the Nittany Lions, so they can stay with Franklin, which has drawn a lot of rage lately from his former fan base.
