Although the New York Yankees lost one Jay Z client with the departure of Robinson Cano, who signed with the Seattle Mariners, they gained another today as pitcher CC Sabathia agreed to a new deal with Jay’s Roc Nation Sports.
Sabathia tweeted out a picture of himself and the hip-hop mogul singing the final pages of a new deal.
The contract seemingly came out of no place considering there hadn’t been any rumors of Sabathia moving to Roc Nation Sports. Regardless, the third highest paid player on the Yankees has new representation.
How much of the deal is related to baseball is unknown considering Sabathia is signed through the 2016 season witch a vesting option for 2017 (an option the Yankees assuredly won’t pick up). It’s possible Sabathia, a Jordan brand athlete could be looking for more endorsements or simply had tired of his previous representation.
Sabathia joins a heavy hitter list of fellow athletes like the aforementioned Cano and the New York Giants’ Victor Cruz, who have all recently signed on to Roc Nation Sports.
