The Chicago Cubs appear to have locked in on free agent pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.
A few days ago, reports surfaced suggesting the Cubs were ready to offer up a ‘nine figure’ deal for the Japanese sensation. Then earlier today, more reports hinted the Cubs were ‘pushing hard’ to sign the 25-year-old. Now they’re ready to ‘blow away‘ the competition, this according to ESPN’s Jayson Stark.
In non-replay news, amazing how many owners in Ariz. were convinced
#Cubs are ready to blow away the field & sign Tanaka to a monster deal.
This report comes with a bit more merit than others considering Stark is citing fellow owners who are in belief of such.
While that’s not to say any other reports were incorrect, citing fellow league owners is a pretty big deal considering they’re the ones who are in direct competition with the Cubs.
Granted, a big offer from the Cubs won’t scare away the New York Yankees or the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Chicago may force themselves to be a player in the Tanaka sweepstakes after all.
