According to a report from CBS’ Jason La Canfora, Atlanta Falcons director of player personnel Lionel Vital is the frontrunner for the open General Manager job for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The team is also said to be interested in Giants scout Marc Ross, Cardinals executive Jason Licht and Titans executive Lake Dawson, but according to La Canfora, Vital is beginning to separate himself as the clear cut frontrunner.
Vital has already met with new Bucs head coach Lovie Smith and it’s said that he made quite the lasting impression on the new Tampa Bay head man. While Smith will have the final say in the personnel decisions, he doesn’t have the background to take himself all the way through the process, therefore and experienced exec like Vital would come in handy.
It obviously also helps a bit that, coming from the Falcons, Vital has great knowledge of the NFC South Division, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see this potential hire eventually come to fruition.
