This morning saw the official Oscars nominations announced and while there was a slew of snubs across the board, as was expected, the finalists for the best films and filmmakers of the past year have been announced.
While it’s not traditionally considered a heavyweight category like Best Actor or Best Picture, the award for Best Supporting Actor is just as competitive this year as it’s big brother categories.
With Bradley Cooper in the mix, things will always be a wild card but Jared Leto enters the race the clear favorite and likely winner. The Academy usually gives awards to heavy performances like his, especially considering he lost a massive amount of weight for the role. Barhad Abdi is also in play here as he may end up being more than just the cinderella story of the Oscars when all is said and done.
Here’s the official Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor:
Best Supporting Actor
Barkhad Abdi — Captain Phillips
Bradley Cooper – American Hustle
Michael Fassbender — 12 Years a Slave
Jonah Hill — The Wolf of Wall Street
Jared Leto — Dallas Buyers Club
