On Thursday, an ad surfaced in the Nashville Tennessean from former Vanderbilt Commodores head coach James Franklin, who recently left the team to take over as the new leading man of the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The ad was to thank Vanderbilt fans and the university for his time in Nashville and it appeared that it was a classy move out of the kindness of his own heart.
“Thank you Vanderbilt. It was a wonderful experience. I am forever grateful. Anchor down, James Franklin,” the ad said.
As it turns out, the ad didn’t come from Franklin at all.
John Ward, vice president of sales for the Nashville Tennessean, was able to confirm that the ad was paid for by Penn State.
Some Vanderbilt fans had mixed reactions to the ad initially, so it will certainly be interesting to see how they react when they learn that the thank you ad to them was actually paid for by the university that stole their head coach away.
