New Orleans Saints outside linebacker Victor Butler’s season was cut short before it ever got a chance to begin. During organized team activities in early June, Butler collided with Saints running back Mark Ingram and tore his ACL.

Butler is hoping to be fully recovered and ready to go when OTAs start this year.

“I’m trying to get some strength back in the quad and feel the way I felt coming into OTAs, Butler said. “I felt real good, my body felt good, so I’m just trying to get back to that and be a part of this team. It’s a special team. And we had a great run this year, and I just want to be part of it next year.”

The Saints defense played better than expected and Butler is a candidate to start in 2014, meaning the Saints defense could continue to get better. Butler is slated to make $1.4 million next season.
