Sochi Olympics 2014: Shaun White earns Olympic berth in slopestyle


United States snowboarder Shaun White is one of the most well-known winter athletes in the country and he will get the honor of representing the U.S.A. in Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympics. White qualified for slopestyle after taking just one run in Mammoth Mountain, Calif.

White opted to stand on his score after the first run and sat the second one out.

The gold-medal favorite for the event is Mark McMorris of Canada, White will be looking to give the Canadian a run for his money.

White, who is also an accomplished skateboarder, is the two-time reigning champion in the Olympics in the halfpipe, which he will attempt to qualify for Friday and Sunday.

With White in the Sochi Olympics, Americans will have a well-known athlete to root for in yet another event as they look to be one of the top nation’s atop the medal count when the Winter Games come to an end.
