The UConn Huskies defeated the No. 17 Memphis Tigers 83-73 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. The Huskies improved to 14-3 (2-2 AAC), and the Tigers fell to 12-4 (3-2 AAC).
UConn forward DeAndre Daniels scored 23 points, including 18 points in the second half, to lead the Huskies in a huge road win. UConn is now .500 in the American Athletic Conference after going 0-2 to begin conference play.
Point guard Shabazz Napier had another strong performance scoring 17 points and dropping 10 dimes. When Napier’s assist numbers are up, the Huskies are nearly unbeatable.
Lasan Kromah added 13 points for the Huskies, including six points in the final 3:30.
After Memphis forward Shaq Goodwin tied the game at 62 with 5:21 left, UConn went on an 8-1 run to take a 70-63 lead. The Tigers battled back to get within four points of the Huskies with a minute to go. However, UConn iced the game at the line, hitting six of six free throws over the final minute.
Memphis guard Michael Dixon Jr. led the Tigers with 16 points. Austin Nichols scored 13 points and grabbed five boards. Joe Jackson chipped in 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Shaq Goodwin finished with 10 points.
