The Nationals have signed their second two year deal of the day, signing Ian Desmond to a multi-year contract. Earlier in the day, the Nats came to terms with Jordan Zimmermann on a two year deal.

Desmond, the Nationals’ short stop, will earn $17.5 million over the length of the contract, $6.5 million in 2014, and $11 million in 2015, according to Joel Sherman. He earned $3.8 million in 2013, a season where he earned his second Silver Slugger award at the position.

For the season, Desmond appeared in a career-high 158 games for the Nats, batting .280/.331/.453 with 20 home runs and 80 RBI.
