Charlie Manuel named Senior Advisor to the GM for Phillies

Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) reports that the Philadelphia Philles have named their former manager Charlie Manuel to a front-office job. His official title is Senior Advisor to the General Manager.

Rosenthal says that Manuel will work as a consultant to Ruben Amaro, Jr., and will also work with minor-league hitters and scout other players in both the majors and minors.

Manuel spent nine years as the skipper for the Phils, earning a 780-636 record before being released in 2013 and replaced by Ryne Sandberg right after his 1000th career win. At the helm of the Phillies, Manuel won two National League pennants and one World Series Championship. He led the 2011 Phillies to a 102-60 record before finishing at 81-81 in 2012 and 53-67 before he was ousted.
