According to the National Football Post, the quarterback spot at the Reese’s Senior Bowl that Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron declined, will now be going to Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. As a result, the Division II star will have a chance to shine on a big stage in Mobile, Alabama against top competition.
Garoppolo has been performing well at the East-West Shrine Game and was regarded as one of the top quarterbacks there. This just gives him more opportunities to shine against top competition as well as getting more exposure and time to speak with NFL teams.
Depending on who is asked, Garoppolo is regarded by some as a second to third day prospect, but these provide an opportunity for him to make the argument why he should go higher. Garoppolo does not have ideal height, but he has a quick throwing motion and solid tools to throw the football. Additionally, playing at Eastern Illinois, Garoppolo has had the opportunity to showcase his ability in adverse weather conditions including wind and snow this season, including the playoffs.
