The search is underway to find the successor to Jeremy Pruitt as the next defensive coordinator as the Florida State Seminoles defensive coordinator and Mississippi State Bulldogs defensive coordinator is a “strong candidate” for the position according to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports.

However, as of 4:45 p.m. central time Collins has yet to interview with Florida State at this point, according to Phil Roussel of Coaching Search. The “at this point” is something that could be interpreted as an interview could happen, it just hasn’t happened yet.
“Geoff Collins appears to be picking up steam to make that trip from Starkeville to Tallahassee,” @Frank_Frangie on FSU DC search

Collins finished his first season as defensive coordinator after previously coaching the linebackers and serving as the co-defensive coordinator. He came to Starkville after one year at Florida International and two years at UCF after serving as director of player personnel at Alabama.
His unit finished with ranked 33rd in the nation in scoring defense (23.1 ppg), 38th in rushing (144.1) and 22nd in pass defense (205.1) on a unit that started the season short on experience but got better each week.
Charles Kelly is a possible internal candidate for Florida State if Collins does not get the job. Kelly coached linebackers and was the Seminoles special teams coordinator in his first season at FSU this season.
