Lance Anderson replaces Derek Mason as Stanford Cardinal defensive coordinator

David Shaw wasted little time filling the vacancy at defensive coordinator with Derek Mason taking the head coaching position with the Vanderbilt Commodores and promoted outside linebackers coach Lance Anderson to be the team’s new coordinator.

Anderson has been with Stanford since he was hired in 2005 where he served as defensive line coach until 2009 when he took over as the team’s linebackers coach in addition to his duties as recruiting coordinator, a title he has held since 2007.

Anderson was imperative in the development of All-American Trent Murphy who had 15 sacks this season, including five games with at least two sacks.

He was also the primary recruiter for Stanford commit Dalton Schultz (South Jordan, Utah. Bingham), the No. 1 tight end in the 247Sports composite rankings. The Tree is likely to receive his commitment.

Stanford was able to act quickly to fill the position because the writing had been on the wall for the past week that Mason was the top target to replace James Franklin at Vanderbilt.
