It’s been two plus seasons since Ryan Madson pitched professionally, but that hasn’t stopped a handful of teams from being interested in the former closer.
Dealing with elbow issues since 2011, Madson has been forced to sit out the past few years but is apparently healthy and ready to continue his Major League career. The 33-year-old has a scheduled workout coming up where a number of teams will be in attendance including the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals.
None of the mentioned teams have an open closer spot so it’s extremely doubtful any team in looking to sign Madson in that role. Rather, it’s likely the veteran arm will need to accept a one-year deal in a middle relief/set-up role to prove he’s healthy.
Madson has spent the last few years with the Angels organization and posted a very effective 2.37 ERA to go with 32 saves during his last healthy season in 2011.
