The Seattle Mariners have spent plenty of money this offseason, but they may be willing to spend more – assuming ownership signs off on such a move.
One name that continues to surface in the rumor mill regarding the Mariners is outfielder/designated hitter Nelson Cruz, who after being suspended for performance enhancing drugs during the 2013 season is still without a contract.
Many league executives have shied away from Cruz considering his asking price and the fact that much of his game is built off power, but Seattle remains intrigued with the veteran according to Ken Rosenthal.
#Mariners in same place, needing ownership approval to keep spending. N. Cruz still of interest.
It’s believed by many that Cruz will need to be willing to accept a one-year ‘prove it’ deal, which would be perfect for Seattle. The risk would certainly be worth the reward in such a scenario, though given Cruz’s reluctance to signing yet, he still may be looking for a multi-year contract.
