The old ball coach will be around a little longer and he is going to be a richer man. According to reports, South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier has received a multi-year contract extension.

Spurrier’s pay will now be $4 million a year and the new deal runs through the 2018 season.

“We appreciate the attitude of the board of trustees in keeping our salaries competitive with the rest of the SEC,” Spurrier said in a statement. “We all hope to coach here many more years, and we still have some goals that have not been accomplished yet.”

Under the terms of the new deal, Spurrier will remain a special assistant to the university’s president and athletic director once he is finished with his coaching career.

There is also some good news for Spurrier’s assistants.

As part of the new deal, their combined pay will now be $3.3 million, which is a raise from the previous $2.7  million that they earned last season.
