Arsenal made a splash int he summer transfer window by adding Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Özil. It is that signing and transfer that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger credits for creating hope around the club. He is hoping that future signings will have the same impact.
“It is not about me, it’s more about do people believe Arsenal can compete?” Wenger told the Guardian, via Sky Sports. “The fact that we brought Özil in at top-level money has turned belief around again.”
Wenger said he would’ve loved to have added a player of Özil’s caliber sooner, but he suggests he would’ve preferred keeping players they already had. One notable name who left is striker Robin van Persie who won a Premier League title in his first season with Manchester United.
“I would have loved to added earlier, yes,” Wenger added. “But I would have loved first to keep the players we had.”
