Australian Open 2014: Serena Williams upset by Ana Ivanovic

The 2014 Australian Open just got turned on it’s head thanks to a rally from Ana Ivanovic. After losing her first set, Ivanovic rallied back to upset the world’s No 1 women’s tennis player, Serena Williams, in the Round of 16. The loss ended Williams’ 25 match unbeaten streak.

Ivanovic, who is ranked No. 14 in the world, came out on top 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The win was Ivanovic’s first Grand Slam win over a top 16-ranked player since winning the 2008 French Open. It’s safe to say that the upset victory couldn’t have come at a better now as she stays alive in the Australian Open and advances to the quarterfinals where she will face the winner of Casey Dellacqua vs. Eugenie Bouchard.

Serena Williams was knocked off in the first round of the tournament, so now both Williams sisters will be watching the remainder of the tournament from the sidelines.

Congratulations to Ivanovic on her big win.
