Liverpool has dropped in the Premier League table since sitting atop it. They’ve dropped to fourth place and four points behind third place Chelsea.
Things got worse for Liverpool when they found themselves down 2-0 at home late in the first half to Aston Villa, a team they should beat and collect three points.
Striker Daniel Sturridge scored in stoppage time of the first half to bring them within one goal before the break. They got a game-tying goal early in the second half courtesy of a dubious call penalty kick awarded to Liverpool on what looks like a Luis Suarez dive.
Suarez was headed towards the touchline when Aston Villa goal keeper Brad Guzan came out and slid at the ball and Suarez’s feet. It looks like Suarez is able to move the ball around Guzan with his right foot, but missed bringing it back in with his left foot for a goal.
Having botched the opportunity, it looks like Suarez goes down despite Guzan seemingly not touching him. It does look like Guzan’s hand might have barely caught his foot. The penalty kick was awarded and captain Steven Gerrard buried the game-tying goal.
