Fox Sports Arizona and Jack Magruder have issued a report saying that the Arizona Diamondbacks have issued an offer to Japanese right hander Masahiro Tanaka in the form of a six-year, $106 million contract.
The Diamondbacks have been public about their interest in Tanaka, and should they succeed in signing him, they would be offering him the largest contract in the franchise’s history. It would eclipse the Miguel Montero extension, which totaled five years and $60 million. As it stands right now, the Diamondbacks’ payroll for 2014 is just under $90 million, assuming that Mark Trumbo and Gerardo Parra get raises through the arbitration process.
