Report: Vanderbilt to name Stanford LB coach David Kotulski defensive coordinator

The Vanderbilt Commodores named Derrick Mason the team’s new head coach to replace James Franklin, who left to take the same position with the Penn State Nittany Lions, so now Mason is set to fill out his coaching staff.

According to a report from CoachingSearch.com on Sunday, Mason has already tabbed his defensive coordinator.

The report states that Stanford Cardinal linebackers coach David Kotulski will be taking over the role. Before taking over as the Stanford linebackers coach, Kotulski was the defensive coordinator for six years at Lehigh.

He was also the defensive coordinator at Holy Cross, Utah State, Bucknell and St. Mary’s.

Mason and Kotulski worked together on the Bucknell staff, before re-joining forces at Stanford. The Commodores will now work towards transitioning to the 3-4 scheme that the two coaches are familiar with.
