Today, Bellator announced their 110th event that will take place at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. In the main event of the evening, former UFC and Pride legend, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson will take on the former Bellator Light Heavyweight champion, Christian M’Pumbu, in the opening round of the Light Heavyweight tournament. Also featured on the card is former StrikeForce product, King Mo Lawal, taking on Mikhail Zayats in the opening round of the Light Heavyweight tournament.
Bellator announced the event on a media call, which you can hear in the video above. The event will be Bellator’s first of Season 10, and it looks as stacked as could be. Rampage Jackson joined Bellator CEO, Bjorn Rebney, on the call this morning and spoke about the opportunity to fight in the Light Heavyweight tournament.
There was some speculation as to whether or not Rampage would fight in Bellator’s tournaments, but the questions have been answered. He will obviously have his plate full with his matchup against M’Pumbu, but a looming matchup against King Mo is where Bellator is hoping this tournament goes.
As we saw with King Mo, there are no guarantees inside the Bellator tournament. Many believed King Mo would run through the competition in Bellator, but two losses to Emanuel Newton have changed the minds of MMA fans around the globe. Can Rampage Jackson become Bellator Light Heavyweight champion in 2014, or will he fail in similar vein to King Mo?
