The Washington Capitals took on the New York Rangers on Sunday night. Capitals’ left winger Martin Erat pulled off one of the cheapest plays you might have ever seen. With Brian Boyle of the Rangers sitting on the ground, Erat took his stick and stabbed him in the crotch.
It came after a play that wound up with Boyle sitting on the puck after losing his edge and galling on it. There is a built in excuse for Erat because of that.
Certainly, poor sportsmanship and a violation of man codes everywhere.
“He kind of was, like, I didn’t mean to,” Boyle said, via Dave Lozo of Bleacher Report. “He just probably regretted it after.”
He probably regretted it because he wants to be traded and he might have made him a less desirable player.
