The San Francisco Giants – specifically pitching coach Dave Righetti – have a special knack in being able to fix broken pitchers. They did it to Ryan Vogelsong. They did it to Chad Gaudin. And now Gaudin is looking to cash in on his recent success.
The 30-year-old arm posted a 3.06 ERA for San Francisco last season in 97 innings before he was released over an off the field incident (he allegedly grouped a woman in a hospital).
Now the veteran has multiple teams (potentially six) lusting over him according to Chris Cotillo:
Source: About six teams are in on Chad Gaudin. He is expected to sign soon.
Cotillo doesn’t mention any teams specifically, though there are a few teams who have been heavily interested in acquiring cheap pitching this offseason, so one could presumably assume they may be involved. Gaudin has experience both as a starter and as a reliever, so it’s not known what role he’d take with any of the interested teams though he’s likely looking for a starting pitching deal given they’re often more financially lucrative.
