San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman suffered a brutal knee injury at the end of the NFC Championship and there was an immediate fear that he suffered some serious ligament damage.

Now that an MRI has been completed, it has been confirmed that Bowman suffered a torn ACL and torn MCL after he got hit in the knee and fell at an awkward angle.

Pro Football Talk passed along the news.

It is obviously a big setback for Bowman and the 49ers defense, with the injury happening at the worst possible time.

Bowman will now spend his offseason recovering from surgery and miss out on OTAs and training camp. There is also a strong possibility that Bowman could begin the season on the PUP list, which would mean he will miss a minimum of six games in 2014.

We wish Bowman a full and speedy recovery.
