The San Francisco 49ers took a beating on Sunday night in their NFC Championship against the Seattle Seahawks, not only on the scoreboard but in the injury department as well.

We all know about the devastating ACL/MCL injury suffered to NaVorro Bowman and Mike Iupati‘s broken fibula, but there was another 49ers who was nursing an injury kept well under wraps.

Many were wondering why star running back Frank Gore remained on the sidelines so often, especially considering so much of the 49ers success in the past has come off their rushing attack. Gore only had 11 rushing attempts for the game and now we have a better indication as to why.

According to famed San Francisco sports shop ‘Lefty’s’, Gore had suffered a broken hand in the contest.

"Tonight with his broken hand, Frank Gore shook hands, signed autographs and met over 250 of his loyal fans."

Gore could be seen on the San Francisco sideline far more often than normal looking less than thrilled and it’s pretty clear that wasn’t part of the 49ers game plan.

He is expected to undergo surgery on the hand today.
