The Houston Astros aren’t exactly a hot spot for free agents, but that doesn’t mean they lack effort in their attempts.
Case in point? According to owner Jim Crane, the Houston Astros have expressed interest in 25-year-old Japanese sensation, Masahiro Tanaka.
Astros owner Jim Crane confirms team’s interest in Tanaka.
The interest actually shouldn’t come as much of a shock considering the Astros also showed heavy interest in free agent first baseman Jose Abreu. Of course, the Astros couldn’t afford Abreu and they were never much of a serious suitor and the same can be said for their interest in Tanaka.
There’s simply no way Houston could compete with the financial offers of a big market team like the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs or Los Angeles Dodgers. And unfortunitly there’s simply no way Houston would hold the same appeal as those cities which would be rich in national endorsements.
Reports from the YES Network on Tuesday suggested Tanaka’s suitors were down to either the Cubs or Yankees.
