MLB Rumors: Matt Kemp unlikely to be ready for Dodgers season opener

The Los Angeles Dodgers will open their season abroad this year as they and fellow National League West foe, the Arizona Diamondbacks, will kick off Major League Baseball’s season by partaking in an intentional match in Australia.

Unlikely to play is Dodgers superstar Matt Kemp, who according to his agent, is doubtful to be ready for the series.

Stewart said he doesn’t think Kemp will be ready for 3/22 opener in Australia. “If the season opened April 1, I think Matt would be ready.”

The Dodgers will Team Australia and two games against the Diamondbacks while down under before returning home for the annual ‘Freeway Series’ which is still considered Spring Training. After that, the Dodgers will make their way to San Diego where they’ll play the Padres in their United States opener.

Personally, looking at that travel schedule, I’d twist my ankle just to avoid it. Yikes.

Certainly going to be a rough few weeks as the Dodgers don’t play their home opener until April 4th – over two weeks after they leave for Australia.

this is B.S. I hope the real intent of this ploy is that MAtt does plan on playing in Aussie, and his guy will make noise of the fact that he worked so hard and was so determined to help his team from day one….or some other such B.S.
If this is just Matt’s way of getting out of the trip, then Mattingly needs to call him on that…..
these are not exhibition games, and we all know what the difference between winning one or two more games can make come October and the palyoffs.

Why would a healthy Matt Kemp want to avoid the trip? Are you nuts?

huhhhh…why would he be not healthy on 3/22 but healthy on 4/1…
