This morning, I followed a few players as they prepare for the Farmers Insurance Open.
Bubba Watson and Geoff Ogilvy teed off at 7:15 am on Torrey North. In calm conditions, Watson crushed a 340-yard opening drive. On the 329-yard second hole, Watson drove the ball a couple paces from the green. After seeing Watson dominate the first two holes, I expect him to go low on Torrey North.
On the putting green, Jason Day practiced his speed with a putting drill. The goal of the drill was to get a 25-foot putt inside a space about eight inches long. Day made more putts inside the designated area than not.
Day is the tenth ranked player in the world, and is making his 2014 PGA Tour debut this week. In 2013, Day made 21 of 21 cuts, and had seven top 10 finishes. If he continues to putt well, look for him to win a couple times this year.
