It has been less than two weeks since UAB Blazers head coach Garrick McGee left the program to take a “demotion” as the offensive coordinator at Louisville, but the Blazers have reportedly settled on their replacement.

Multiple outlets are now reporting that UAB will hire Jacksonville State head coach Bill Clark for the job, and while the contract details are still being worked out, the official announcement could come as soon as Wednesday. Clark led JSU to their first 10-win season in over 2 decades with an 11-4 record and an appearance in the FCS quarterfinals this season, but he spent exactly one year on the job with the Gamecocks.
Clark, who is also a graduate of Jacksonville State, was previously the defensive coordinator at South Alabama for five seasons, and he does have an impressive 20-year resume in college coaching. Still, it is a big jump from DC at South Alabama to head coach at a program like UAB, and it will be a tall task for Clark to win and/or recruit in a state that is obsessed with Auburn and Alabama.
