UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis is currently rehabbing from a knee injury, but he has begun targeting his return to the cage. According to Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight on Wednesday, Pettis is hoping to return on Fourth of July weekend at the UFC’s annual show in Las Vegas.
The Fourth of July weekend event will be held on July 5 this year.
Pettis is expected to face the winner of this weekend’s lightweight clash between Benson Henderson and Josh Thomson. Pettis believes that Henderson is going to get the win.
There is a possibility that someone like Gilbert Melendez could get the title shot against Pettis if Henderson wins since the two men have fought two times in the past, so it could certainly make for some interesting matchmaking in the coming weeks.
