Masahiro Tanaka: New York Yankees' World Series odds make a jump with signing

The New York Yankees were the hands down winner on Wednesday of the Masahiro Tanaka sweepstakes, bolstering their starting pitching rotation with the blockbuster, while also bolstering their World Series odds in Vegas as well.

At at least two Las Vegas outlets at the moment, the Yankees’ odds to be playing in October took quite the significant jump. At Sportsbook, the Yankees’ World Series odds immediately went from 20/1 up to 15/1. Meanwhile, at CarbonSports, the team’s odds made an even bigger leap from 20/1 up to 12/1.

After the stretch of negotiations, the Yankees were able to secure the Japanese standout by agreeing to a seven-year $155 million deal with an opt-out option for the fourth year.

He was a mind-boggling 24-0 last season for the Rakuten Golden Eagles and holds an overall Japanese record of 99-35 in his career.

Tanaka was given the fifth richest contract for a pitcher in Major League Baseball history, so now it’s time to see if Tanaka can help give them their 28th World Series trophy and make some of these oddsmakers look smart in the process.
