On Tuesday afternoon, reports surfaced that multiple teams had called the San Diego Padres hoping to trade for infielder Logan Forsythe. One of the teams were the New York Yankees, but it was fellow AL East foe, the Tampa Bay Rays who gave San Diego an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Desperate for pitching, the Padres agreed to send Forsythe (and others) to the Rays in exchange for Alex Torres.

The Rays have acquired infielder Logan Forsythe from the Padres as part of a seven player trade.

Reliever Alex Torres heads to San Diego as part of the return package, along with right-handed pitcher Jesse Hahn.

In addition to Forsythe, the Rays also get infielder Maxx Tissenbaum and pitchers Matt Andriese, Brad Boxberger and Matt Lollis.

Forsythe had a down year in 2013 as he battled injuries but was very serviceable in 2012 and should provide solid utlity depth for the Rays as he can play both infield and outfield positions. Torres meanwhile will be a solid addition to the San Diego Padres pitching staff and can pitch either in or out of the bullpen.
