Chelsea are reported to be interested in signing Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, with the 18-year old seen as a long term replacement to Ashley Cole.
Shaw was part of the Chelsea academy as a child, but moved to Southampton as a teenager. He has admitted in the past to being a Chelsea fan, and this could put the Blues ahead of other clubs in the race to sign the defender.
Southampton are not in a position of needing to sell, and dismissed a bid of £15m and Ryan Bertrand (who has since joined Aston Villa on loan) earlier this month.
According to the Daily Star, the south coast club are holding out for a fee of £30m ($49m), which would be a record for a full-back. While Cole and Cesar Azpilicueta have filled the left-back role for the Blues this season, Cole is out of contract at the end of the season and Azpilicueta is more comfortable at right back.
