There was no shortage of suitors for Japanese sensation Masahiro Tanaka, but in the end, it was the New York Yankees who signed the 25-year-old.
That of course wasn’t exactly shocking since it’s not often the Yankees don’t get what they want.
Granted, they had to pay a lofty price for Tanaka – something he attributes as to why he signed with the Bronx Bombers, in addition to the fact that they are ‘famous’.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Tanaka said he chose the Yankees as they gave him the “highest evaluation,” and added that he was looking forward to the new environment. “It’s a famous and prestigious team,” he said.
By highest evaluation, we’re assuming he means they were willing to pay the most money.
It also helps his style of pitching will work beautifully in Yankee Stadium, so it appears to be a perfect match all around – at least for now. We’ll see how well it translates once the honeymoon phase is over.
