Zack Martin surprised some when he returned to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for his redshirt senior season in 2013 and the team’s left tackle who has started 52 consecutive games for the Irish continued to surprise, but this time it was with his play at the 2014 Senior Bowl.
“I was really impressed by how good a football player he is,” Mike Mayock said on NFL Network on Friday. “He’s even better than I thought.”
The 6-4, 305-pound Martin came to Mobile, Al. with questions surrounding his size and short arms (32.25 inches) and if he is better suited to play at guard, but there are no questions about his talent and he could be the first player to be drafted of the Senior Bowl participants.
I asked 5 NFL personnel guys who will be the top #SeniorBowl prospect drafted. Results: Zack Martin (3 votes), Carr (1), Donald (1)

“He was outstanding all week long,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said. “He has enough athleticism to play tackle, but he has Pro Bowl potential as a guard.”
Martin compares to former Syracuse Orange left tackle and last year’s first round pick of the New York Giants, Justin Pugh, so if he was a first round pick, Martin should be as well and his versatility is only going to boost his stock.
You can watch Martin in the Senior Bowl at 3:00 p.m. CT on the NFL Network.
