Browns new coach compliments Brian Hoyer

The Cleveland Browns finally found their new head coach on Thursday night, with Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine accepting the job. Pettine’s first order of business will be to fill out his coaching staff, but he will also need to look over the roster and evaluate what positions the Browns need the most.

One position of interest will be quarterback, where most people anticipate the Browns will look early in the NFL Draft.

However, Pettine wasted no time complimenting Brian Hoyer, who looked impressive for the Browns before he suffered a torn ACL.

I think he’s a winner,” Pettine said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I think the intangibles with Brian are off the charts. I think he’s a football junkie and I think you can tell he loves the game. He came from a system where he learned from the best in the game and that showed on the field. A lot of people based on his background kind of fall asleep on him a little bit.

“I think he’s a winning quarterback in this league.”

With the compliments from Pettine, it appears that Hoyer will at least get an opportunity to compete for the starting job even if the Browns select a quarterback early in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Why shouldn’t hoyer get the job. Starting a rookie, weeden, or Campbell is stupid and will get you fired. Hoyer is still undefeated as a starting qb.

I was very pleased to read coach Pettine’s comments on Brian Hoyer. If he gets a fair shot I bet he will really show us something. He sure looked like he would fit right in those three starts that he had before going down. Maybe the brain trust will keep his potential in mind on draft day. I hope so and maybe they
will take a pass (no pun intended) on all the Manziel hype.

I really don’t want Manziel. I would rather see Watkins or clowney as first round pick. This is hoyers job and team.

Right on Nc Browns fan. Just saying how does an Nc person get to be a Browns fan? We got a lot of draft picks this year and if the brain trust can get it together we should come out looking good. Have faith Brothers better days are close at hand.

I’m from garfield hts. Been a browns fan for almost 39yrs. I just can’t become a panthers fan. Lets roll with hoyer and help our other positions out. Good days are coming. I’m glad we hired a hard azzed coach not a snot nosed McDaniels.

Thanks for the response I have been Brownie since the 1954 title game with the Lions. We had just gotten a TV and the only channels available where CBS and NBC from Buffalo NY. We couldn’t even get the channel from Toronto. One channel featured

I’m not sure Hoyer is a franchise QB, but I also would like to give him a shot at starting and maybe let a younger QB learn from the bench!I would rather see them take Sammy Watkins at #4 and see who’s available at #26 at QB or even get one later in the second or third round and let them sit and develope!! I just don’t think there is a QB worth that high of pick in this draft, but there are some players of need for this team that are worth that high of a pick!!
