Daisuke Matsuzaka does rejoin the New York Mets

Earlier this month, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York and several other beat writers had heard reports out of Japan that former superstar Daisuke Matsuzaka had returned to the Mets on a minor league deal. Those reports, at the time, were refuted and everyone backed off of the story.

Now the club itself has announced that it has, indeed, reached an agreement with Matsuzaka and the right-hander will rejoin the club on a minor league deal. Rubin speculates that Dice-K, John Lannan, and Jenrry Mejia will now be in competition with each other for the fifth spot in the Mets’ rotation. Matsuzaka’s deal is for $1.5 million in the event that he makes the 25-man roster (per @JoelSherman1).
