Florida State Seminoles national champion and Heisman winning quarterback, Jameis Winston is also expected to be the closer for the school’s baseball team, but he’s also pulling double-duty as a closer on the recruiting trail, according to Noles247.
Winston is the host for five-star wide receiver Malachi Dupre (New Orleans, La. John Curtis) and the two have exchanged text messages earlier in the recruiting period, so there is a relationship there for the Heisman winner and the nation’s No. 2 receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
While the pressure of closing out the ninth inning of a baseball game is different than being a personal host for a top football recruit, this may be one instance where Winston is unable to seal the deal as Dupre is widely considered to be favoring the LSU Tigers.
Not only could the 6-2.5, 190-pound receiver be able to play for his in-state school, but he could start as a true freshman in the SEC following the departures of Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry.
However, not many people would have expected Winston to win a Heisman and a national title when he won the starting job this fall, so anything is possible as Winston showcases his closing skills before he showcases his other closing skills.
