The Baltimore Orioles are still in need of a closer and many felt they’d eventually agree upon a deal with former Tampa Bay Rays fireman, Fernando Rodney.

That hasn’t been the case and apparently may not be as Dan Connolly report the Orioles have not had dialogue with Rodney in weeks.

Acdg to source, #Orioles & Fernando Rodney’s reps havent had any dialogue in weeks. Could that change? Sure. Os still dont have est. closer

As Connolly notes that doesn’t mean the two sides won’t potentially reconnect but it doesn’t appear as if the Orioles are in a hurry to find a closer in free agency. Some rumors have hinted that the Orioles are fine with using an in-house closer, a role that is likely to be bestowed upon Tommy Hunter.

One team that won’t have interest in Rodney are the Rays, who recently signed Grant Balfour to a two-year deal. Balfour of course signed with the Orioles earlier this offseason, but had his contract voided after a failed physical.
