The Oklahoma City Thunder have kept their head above water playing without point guard Russell Westbrook for the past month, this after Westbrook underwent unexpected surgery in late December.
But Westbrook is nearing a return – a return that could happen in just over a week, this according to Darnell Mayberry who hinted the All-Star guard may be on the court come February 3rd.
When asked about when Westbrook would return, the Thunder beat writer suggested the early February date.
My prediction was Feb. 3 against Memphis.
Westbrook of course still needs to be cleared by team doctors so this is mere speculation on the part of Mayberry, but educated speculation since he’s revered as one of the more accurate beat writers around the country.
For what it’s worth, the team suggested that Westbrook likely wouldn’t return prior to the NBA’s All-Star break when Westbrook originally underwent the knife. However, Westbrook is no stranger to early and shocking returns – something we’ve already witnessed this season when the former UCLA product returned ahead of schedule.
