On Friday night during the Texas Rangers awards gathering at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, one teammate had a bold prediction about his new teammate, first baseman and slugger Prince Fielder.
“He’s going to get the MVP,” Adrian Beltre said, via the Dallas Morning News. “It’s his time to win it. My job is to protect him so that he gets there.”
Fielder has batted fourth in the lineup for two clubs protecting two MVPs, Ryan Braun with Milwaukee and Miguel Cabrera in Detroit. Beltre is excited about the opportunity for Fielder to move into that No. 3 slot and have the same opportunity Braun and Cabrera had.
Fielder is excited about the switch from the cleanup spot.
“I think it’s going to be outstanding,” Fielder said. “I like it a lot. Definitely not upset about it.
“Anytime you get to hit in front of a guy like that, it’s not going to hurt.”
