Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger denies a deal is done for Schalke's Julian Draxler

Arsenal has watched Chelsea and Manchester United work out a deal for midfielder Juan Mata, and Chelsea added a trio of players as well. Meanwhile, Arsenal has been less active in the January transfer window. There were rumors that Arsenal was about to sign Schalke winger Julian Draxler for £37 million, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger denied those reports.

“That is an illusion. There is nothing happening, honestly no,” Wenger said, via Sky Sports. “We don’t need to take players on the flanks – we have 17 players on the flanks.”

In case you were curious how Wenger felt about Chelsea sending Mata to Manchester United, he isn’t a fan.

“I am surprised. Juan Mata is a great player and they sell a great player to a direct opponent,” Wenger said, via Sky Sports“Chelsea have already played twice against Man United, they could have sold him last week.

“I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody, this should not happen. I can understand completely what Chelsea are doing, and they do not make the rules, but maybe the rules should be a bit more adapted for fairness.”
