Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been a desirable target in transfer windows. Chelsea and Jose Mourinho had two bids for Rooney rejected in the summer transfer window and tried to wrok him into the Juan Mata deal in the January transfer window. United have been keen to keep him and now they’re on the verge of giving him a new contract as well.
From Sky Sports:
Manchester United have begun negotiations over a new contract with striker Wayne Rooney, according to Sky sources.
The 28-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal, but the club has contacted Rooney’s representatives and the offer to start talks over a contract extension has been accepted.
Sky Sports went on to speculate that the deal would likely be a four-year extension. This should put an end to transfer rumors, but teams could continue to chase Rooney in transfer windows. With Juan Mata there, it looks like Rooney could be back on board after criticizing the team for the lack of top-class players they were recruiting.
