NBA Rumors: Greg Oden's role unlikely to expand

It’s been a long road to recovery for Miami Heat big man Greg Oden, who’s just happy to be on an NBA roster and playing.

Granted, he’s not playing much, but some is better than nothing. And that’s something he likely needs to get comfortable with as Ira Winderman doesn’t believe Oden’s role will expand much moving forward.

But let’s also be realistic: It remains highly unlikely that Oden is getting to rotation minutes any time soon. His lot likely will remain as a situational player.

The Heat are going to need Oden for the postseason (assuming they need him for anything) and there’s little reason to push the oft-injured center during the regular season. So while the limited minutes may be frustrating, it’s likely best for all parties as Oden is less likely to hurt himself/wear down and the Heat are able to keep their big man fresh for the postseason where an inevitable date against the Indiana Pacers likely awaits.

Oden is currently averaging just over seven minutes per game with the Heat.
