Henrik Zetterberg gets a surprise scratch on Sunday

Before Sunday’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers, there was a bit of a surprising scratch from one team’s lineup.

Detroit has officially scratched left wing Henrik Zetterberg, reportedly with an upper body injury. Also announced was his replacement for the game, which will be Dan Cleary.

From the Associated Press,

Zetterberg has also missed time this season with a back injury and the Red Wings are already without star forward Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) and Olympic goalie Jimmy Howard (knee), among others, on a team hit hard by injuries.

In 40 games this season, Zetterberg has a team-best 16 goals and 44 points. His plus-19 also leads the team.

It’s an unfortunate loss for the Red Wings, who are currently in 5th place in the Atlantic division, with a record of 23-18-10.

If Zetterberg is forced to miss more than just this one game for the Red Wings, it is unknown how the team will fair, as their captain has been an essential part of the team’s offense.
