Last night, the Miami Dolphins appeared to have narrowed down their search for a new general manager to three candidates, and even extended an offer to one. But while it very clearly appears that New England Patriots director of pro personnel Nick Caserio was their first choice, he wasn’t the man hired for the job.

According to Armando Salguero, the Dolphins have hired Dennis Hickey as the next general manager of the team.

While the hire is good news for Hickey, who now works in a coveted position in and NFL front office, the Dolphins aren’t coming out of this search looking good at all. They first took their time in finding candidates, then were rejected by the first two guys the offered the job to.

In addition to having Caserio reject their job offer, the Miami Dolphins were also rejected by Lake Dawson, who decided to return to the Tennessee Titans.

It’s not that Hickey is a bad choice for the job, it’s just that his hiring will be overshadowed by the botched general manager search that saw the Dolphins third choice for job get hired.
