Before Sunday’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni was asked about his coaching stint in New York.
He was asked about why Carmelo Anthony seemed to struggle under his coaching system, which has been the same in Phoenix, New York and Los Angeles.
Before the tip-off of Sunday’s Knicks-Lakers game, D’Antoni was asked if it was “shocking” that Anthony — one of the best offensive players on the planet — didn’t perform well in his system.
“Yeah, shocking,” he said.
D’Antoni didn’t want to elaborate Sunday on why it didn’t work with Anthony in New York. “I’ll keep my mouth shut. You gave me an opportunity to keep my mouth shut, this is a good one,” he said.
There was definitely a bit of a chemistry problem between the coach and superstar, and it was evident for the most part. In fact, it was so obvious, that it was seen to be one of the potential reasons D’Antoni leave New York.
